In a video that circulated online for the better part of Friday, hundreds of job seekers stormed Kakamega county seeking for job opportunities. Chandarana supermarket is said to have announced vacancies for their new branch that is opening in Kakamega. Many Kenyans turned up in large numbers hoping they will secure jobs at the new outlet.
As to how a lot of Kenyans got the news and flocked the county is still unclear. Some are said to have traveled from as far as Nairobi and Mombasa to come and try their luck. In the video one job seeker could be hard narrating how he arrived at the recruitment centre in Kakamega at 4 am.
Reports reaching our desk indicate that from the hundreds of applicants who turned up, only a handful of vacancies were up for grabs. Many were left stranded and disappointed on realizing they won’t have a chance. In a country where your CV is not a guarantee you will secure a job, many applicants were turned away despite having held their hopes high.
From what was seen, it is clear many Kenyan youths are jobless and their efforts to secure one are always thwarted from the application point.
Speaking on citizen television, one such Kenyan narrated his ordeal in an attempt to get a job. After his attempts failed he resorted to hawking despite having a degree in Business Management. Another Kenyan narrated how he advanced his studies with hopes he will secure a job but all was in vain. He would later be absorbed at the university where he was a student as a lecturer.
