Nakuru Boys High School was established in 1927 as Francis Scott High School but later changed its name to Nakuru High School after Kenya attained its independence.

During the earlier days, the school was an all- white area since it was mainly for children of the whites who had settled in the outlying farming areas and the British administrators.

The only blacks who were allowed were subordinate staff. This slowly changed since after Kenya attained its independence, the black students who came in were received with backlash. Girls started being admitted in 1964, making it a national school shortly after. With time, more black teachers and students started coming in and in 1982, Francis Kesui, the first black principal, was appointed to the school.
