The school was established in 1922 by the Arnold Butler McDonell for Evelyn Mitchell and 3 of his other daughters and any other people who might join on his farm. It first started as a junior school called Hill Preparatory School.
It was a mixed school but in the beginning, most of the girls continued with their education in England. The boys were day scholars. The students sat their first their first O- level exams in 1938 and their first A- level exams in 1952.
