Royal Media sacks Employees: In a wave of job losses that has been witnessed in the country, Royal Media is the latest to lay off some of its employees. This comes some few days after Media Max laid off over 100 employees.
The sacking axe has fallen on some of popular personalities in the media house leaving more questions than answers. Among those who have reportedly been laid off include Radio Citizen presenters Syombua Osiany, John Maloba, Heminigilder Mugeni and popular Hot 96 FM Presenter Nancy Wanjiku Karanja commonly known as Shix Kapienga. Shix Kapienga hosted Drop Zone on Hot 96 FM Monday to Thursday from 7 pm to 10 pm alongside Rapcha The Scientist. Syombua Osiany on the other hand hosted Pambazuka on Radio Citizen from 4 a.m. to 6 a.m.
On her social media following the sack Syombua Osiany took to twitter and wrote;
“I have NEVER doubted my God. I will not begin doubting Him NOW! He has given me so much peace; so much that I don’t understand myself.My God has everything figured out already. I am resting upon His promises. Wapendwa, huyu Syombua ako sawa kabisa!!”Her tweet read.
Early this week. Media Max laid off over 100 workers. The lay off was mainly due to challenging times following the Covid 19 outbreaks. The media house cited reduction in advertising revenues as the main reason that called for the sack. The affected journalist were mainly from the Media Max owned K24 TV station and the People Daily Newspaper.
One of the text message seen was send by a human resource manager identified as Maureen on Sunday 20th read “I am contacting you with regards to the redundancy notice issued on 21st of May 2020. The notice period has expired. Unfortunately your position has been affected by way of redundancy. I would like to invite you to Emory Hotel in Kileleshwa tomorrow, Monday 22nd at 8:55am to discuss what this means to your employment. When you get to the hotel kindly ask for me. We thank you for your indulgence and cooperation in this matter.”
