How to apply for Interim Driving license in 2021 Step by Step

Interim Driving license enables you to carry out your driving operations after passing your driving tests as you wait for your driving license. To apply for an interim driving license you need to log into your eCitizen account. If you do not have an eCitizen account you need to create one.

You will be charged a non refundable fee of Ksh. 750 when making the application. The interim license is usually valid for a period of 1 year.

How to apply for interim driving license

Log in to your eCitizen portal

Once logged in, navigate to National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) field.

Press on “Make Application”. Driving Licenses.

Then select “Driving license NC” as shown below

Then choose the TDb type as shown below

Now, select your license test drive booking number  then press continue as shown below

Submit your selection by pressing Submit button as shown below

After making your submission the system will redirect you to the payment page where you will choose your payment method.

Various payment options are available ranging from M-pesa option to bank option. Select your convenient one. A fee of Kshs.750 will be charged for interim license application.

Make the payment

After making the payment using your preferred method, the system will automatically detect your payment when you press ‘Complete Payment’ and an interim license will be processed instantly.

Navigate to the top right corner where you will be able to see your interim license download button.
Download by pressing on print button below it

Provisional Driving Licence Application Process, Step By Step Procedure

Print your interim license. The interim license will indicate your driving class the date of application and its expiry date.

The interim driving license is usually valid for a period of 1 year.

If you are unsure of the process, it is advisable to get someone with the knowledge in this field to assist you.

When Does one receive A Driving License?

The interim driving license is meant to serve the for the period you are yet to receive your driving license. The interim driving license is valid for a period of one year. Upon the expiry of this period, your driving school should have applied and for your first Driving license, otherwise you can reapply for another interim license if it has expired and you are yet to receive your license.

The latest Digital is issued through the NTSA TIMS portal. The Digital Driving License has a validity period of at least 3 years.

How to Renew Your Driving License

To renew your driving license,

  • Log into your Ecitizen Account
  • Open NTSA services
  • Click on driving license
  • Select ‘Renew driving license’
  • Choose the validity period you wish. There is an option for one year and three years.
  • Choose ‘Submit’
  • Select your preferred payment method
  • Pay to complete the process
  • The system will automatically generate your driving license
  • Print your driving license

After printing your driving license, plug off your old the old one and attach your new driving license in the booklet.

Currently, only 1 year driving license can be renewed due to NTSA transition to digital driving license.
