Police Officers Salaries in Kenya
In Kenya the average basic salary of a constable police officer is Ksh.28,140.In addition, police are entitled to a rental house allowance of up to Ksh.5,500, Commuter allowance of up to Ksh. 3,000, housing supplementation allowance of up to Ksh.3,000 and Police/Prison Allowance of up to Ksh.9,000. All these brings the total earning of a police officer to Ksh.48,640. Salaries for police officers in Kenya depends on the rank of each officer as well.
However, police officers’ salary is also subject to mandatory statutory deductions of WCPS contribution, Social welfare Contribution, Pay As You Earn-PAYE and NHIF deductions. The more you earn, the more deductions are made from your payslip.

The Kenya Police salaries like any profession are based on the ranks, years of service and education levels of the officers. Before the 2010 Kenyan constitution banned strikes by officers in uniform, the police were among the civil servants known to down their tools so as to picket, pushing for salary increments. The police play a very vital role in the security of the country, and in view of this, their salaries were in 2015 increased by 100%. The increments, as per the new structure, were to be spread in four phases over the years.

Qualification For Joining Police Service
To join the police service, one needs to have a scored a minimum grade of D+ in KCSE exams. Members of NYS who wish to join the police service are also given a priority. To join the police service one needs to be physically fit, have no criminal record. There is also an age limit for any one wishing to join the police service. One must be between 18 years to 28 years of age.
