Netizens Reacts To High Cost Of ‘Nyanya’

Inflation in Kenya is real and has hit Kenyans hard. But it is the high cost of tomatoes ‘nyanya’ that has kept netizens talking.

Following the heavy rains that the country experienced from late last year to late January 2020, the production of tomatoes has heavily been affected. Many  farmers have decried low production causing under supply in the market. This has resulted in the sky rocketing in cost of tomatoes. It has been reported in most parts of the country that one tomatoes goes for as much as Ksh.20. This has made tomatoes one of the commodities that is hard to afford.

Many are finding it hard to cope up with the situation and some took to social media to express their frustrations.

@OsamaOtero

Bei ya nyanya ni expe kuliko maembe..halafu msishangae huko ocha farmers wanamwaga nyanya zao kwa shamba because of unfavourable market and unkind middlemen who frustrate them to sell their produce at a very depressing price rates hence giving up.

Tomatoes zimekua shida. Was forced to go to Wangige market this evening hoping the prices are better there. Nimepigwa na butwaa. 3 nyanyas ni 40 bob! Managu is fairly cheap though. Ya 300 is enough to push me for 3 weeks.

@FellMentKE
