The school was started in the year 1974 by the community. Its main aim back then was to enable girls in the area to access secondary education. This happened because at that time, there was no secondary school in Amu island offering secondary education to the girlchild. It first started as Harambee Secondary School. The first leader of the school was Rev. Fr. Baldacchino. Over the years, the community has been so supportive in helping build the school to where they desire it to be. The students are willing to learn and so they keep motivating their work. Apart from its good performance in both local and national examinations, the school has also shown exemplary performance in music performance.
