How To Apply And Get e-SIM Online (MySafaricom App)

In this article I will walk you through a step by step process on how to apply for Safaricom e-SIM online through Mysafaricom App. Safaricom now allows users to switch to an eSIM without needing to visit a physical store, providing a streamlined digital activation process.

An eSIM (embedded SIM) allows you to use a mobile plan without a physical SIM card. But first before you can apply for Safaricom e-SIM you need to confirm if your smartphone is e-SIM ready, you can do this through the My Safaricom App under the Account.

Step-by-Step Guide to Activate Your Safaricom eSIM

Step 1. Download MySafaricom App

The first step to to download the latest version of MySafaricom App from the play store or App Store. Then open it.

Step 2: Access the Account Section

In the app, tap on the Account icon located at the bottom right corner of the screen to access account options.

Step 3: Select ‘Request eSIM’

From the menu, locate and tap on Request eSIM. If your phone is eSIM compatible, you can proceed. However, if not, you’ll be notified that your device is not e-SIM compatible.

Step 4: Verify Your Email Address

Safaricom will send your eSIM information to your email, including a QR code. This QR code is essential for installing the eSIM on your device, so ensure your email address is correct.

Step 5: Authenticate Using Your M-Pesa PIN

Complete the request by authenticating with your M-Pesa PIN, which secures the activation.

  • New Line Activation: KES 250
  • Prepaid Customers: KES 150 for switching from a physical SIM to an eSIM.
  • Postpaid Customers: Free of charge.

Step 6: Check Your Email and Install the eSIM

After completing the steps, check your email for the eSIM details and the QR code Safaricom has sent. To activate, simply scan the QR code with your phone’s camera or via the settings in your device’s cellular options.

NOTE: Once Activated, Your Physical SIM Will Cease to Operate, your account will be transferred to the eSIM, rendering your physical SIM inactive.
