Public Service Commission Announces 4,000 Internship Opportunities in Housing and Urban Development

The Public Service Commission (PSC) of Kenya has announced a significant internship opportunity under the Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development. A total of 4,000 internship positions are now open in the State Department for Housing and Urban Development, providing recent graduates with hands-on experience in various professional areas critical to Kenya’s affordable housing and urban development goals.

Internship Fields and Opportunities

The internships, under Cohort 1, will span 41 diverse professional areas, ranging from engineering and architecture to ICT and legal fields. Some of the top allocations include:

  • Architecture – 300 positions
  • Civil Engineering – 200 positions
  • Construction Management – 250 positions
  • Realtors – 200 positions
  • Mechanical, Electrical, and Structural Engineering – 200 each
  • Quantity Surveying – 200 positions

Other specialized areas include Health and Safety, Social Development, Environment, Data Science, Actuarial Science, Supply Chain Management, Legal, Digital Marketing, and Human Resources.

Requirements for Application

To qualify for the internship program, applicants must:

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in any of the listed disciplines from a recognized university;
  • Have graduated in 2018 or later;
  • Be proficient in computer skills.

Internship Structure

The internship will last for 12 months (non-renewable). Interns will be deployed in various Affordable Housing Programme and Marketing project sites across the country, where they will:

  1. Perform tasks assigned by their supervisors,
  2. Document and report on the skills and knowledge acquired,
  3. Participate in mentorship activities and contribute to project objectives.

Interns will receive a stipend, with the amount to be determined by the government, and will be awarded a certificate upon successful completion of the program by the State Department for Housing and Urban Development.
