Breakdown of New Salaries for Kenyan Police Officers by Rank

Police officers in Kenya are set to receive higher salaries following the continued implementation of pay reforms aimed at improving welfare within the service. The salary adjustments stem from recommendations made by the police reforms taskforce chaired by former Chief Justice David Maraga in 2023.

The final phase of the new pay structure is scheduled to take effect from 1 July 2026, according to the National Steering Committee overseeing the reforms under Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo.

Under the revised structure, entry-level police recruits will earn a starting basic salary of Sh29,296, up from Sh20,390, representing an increase of about 40 percent. Meanwhile, a fully deployed police constable—the lowest regular rank—will earn up to Sh57,700 per month, compared to the previous maximum of Sh38,975, marking a significant improvement in pay.

Officers in Police Grade 2 (PG2) will earn between Sh36,040 and Sh61,588, up from the earlier range of Sh26,500 to Sh50,330. Those in PG3 will now take home between Sh48,114 and Sh67,018, while officers in PG4 will earn between Sh51,546 and Sh71,964 in monthly basic salary.

For PG5, the revised salaries range from Sh53,246 to Sh74,887, up from the previous maximum of Sh62,750. Officers in PG6 will earn between Sh59,742 and Sh82,880, while PG7 officers will receive between Sh65,103 and Sh100,503 in basic pay.

Higher-ranking officers will see even larger increases. PG8 officers will earn between Sh101,711 and Sh138,115, while PG9 officers will receive up to Sh148,538. In PG10, salaries will range from Sh112,617 to Sh181,531.

At the top of the scale, officers in PG11 will earn between Sh163,535 and Sh262,020, while the highest-ranking category, PG12, will receive between Sh204,637 and Sh345,850 per month.

The pay review is part of broader efforts to reform Kenya’s policing sector, improve morale, and address long-standing concerns about officers’ welfare and working conditions.
