Flipper International School (FIS) is a private institution in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It was founded in 1998 by Mrs. Menna Selamu and Mrs. Serkaddis Seifu with the aim of bridging the gap in the provision of nursery education in the city with the vision of providing a stimulating and nurturing atmosphere for preschool-aged children. It grew over the years to be among the most highly regarded preschools and primary schools in the capital city, subsequently adding the provision of secondary education.
The school is accredited by the Ministry of Education in Ethiopia as a ‘Foreign Investors’ School’ and integrates the Ethiopian National Curriculum with the Cambridge International Curriculum. The dual curriculum prepares the students for international as well as domestic standards.
FIS applies elements of the Montessori ‘play and learn’ strategy in its Early Years program for young students. The school applies a range of assessments, such as the Ethiopian National Examinations and the Cambridge Standardized Assessments, and prepares the students for IGCSE examinations at the end of Year 11, with over 10 AS and A-Level courses.”
