UDM Expels Two Isiolo MCAs Over Misconduct and Disloyalty

The United Democratic Movement (UDM) has expelled two nominated Isiolo Members of County Assembly (MCAs), Fozia Jibril and Amina Omar, citing gross misconduct, disloyalty, and failure to adhere to party regulations. The decision was officially announced in a letter dated July 14, 2025, and read before the County Assembly on July 17 by Speaker Mohamed Roba.

According to UDM’s National Executive Committee (NEC), the two leaders were found guilty of violating the party’s constitution and code of conduct. Among the charges were their failure to pay mandatory party contributions and refusal to honour disciplinary summons. Fozia Jibril, in particular, was fined Ksh500,000 by the party’s Disciplinary Committee—a penalty she allegedly ignored.

The expulsions are widely viewed as fallout from the failed impeachment attempt against Governor Abdi Guyo. Both Jibril and Omar were vocal supporters of the motion but reportedly switched their allegiance to the governor following the Senate’s decision to dismiss the impeachment. Their sudden political pivot, seen as a betrayal by the party, likely accelerated disciplinary action.

UDM’s move signals a broader shake-up within the Isiolo County Assembly. During the same session, Minority Leader Francisco Letimalo (KANU) was removed from his position and replaced by Halima Abgudo (KANU), while Deputy Speaker David Lemantile was ousted from the House Business Committee and replaced by Salesio Kiambi. These changes indicate rising internal rifts and re-alignments among coalition members within the Assembly.

Speaker Roba confirmed that the nomination of Jibril and Omar had been revoked by the party and, as per the law and Assembly Standing Orders, they ceased to be MCAs immediately. The Assembly subsequently adjourned until July 29 to facilitate repairs to the chamber, which had been vandalized during recent protests on June 26.

This political development reflects ongoing instability in Isiolo’s leadership, particularly after the impeachment bid failed and sparked heightened tensions within the Assembly. UDM’s decision underscores its intention to enforce party discipline and cohesion, especially amid growing intra-coalition rivalries. The coming weeks will be pivotal as Isiolo’s political landscape continues to shift and as the Assembly regroups to resume its legislative duties.
