EACC Recovers 12 Stolen Land Plots Worth Sh320 Million in Western Kenya
Kenya’s anti-corruption watchdog has taken back 12 public land parcels valued at 320 million shillings in Kakamega and Bungoma counties. These plots had been illegally taken over by private developers through fraudulent schemes.
The recovered land includes prime property meant for public facilities like schools, hospitals and government offices. Investigators found the plots were stolen using fake title deeds, forged documents and corrupt deals between land officials and private buyers.
After years of court battles, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) finally got court orders to cancel the illegal ownership documents. The land will now be returned to local county governments for proper public use.
EACC boss Twalib Mbarak warned that more land grabbers will be pursued, saying: “Public land must benefit the people, not corrupt individuals.” The commission is now working to prosecute those involved in the thefts.
This successful recovery represents a significant win in Kenya’s fight against corruption, protecting vital public assets for community development in western Kenya.
