TotalEnergies Advances Major Africa Projects as Executive Set for Paris Energy Forum
Mike Sangster, Senior Vice President for Africa at TotalEnergies, is set to speak at the Invest in African Energy Forum in Paris on April 22–23, as the company accelerates a robust pipeline of upstream and LNG projects across the continent.
Africa remains a cornerstone of TotalEnergies’ global portfolio, contributing roughly half of its operated production and receiving the largest share of its exploration budget. This strong position is now driving a new wave of project execution and investment decisions expected to shape the company’s output through 2026 and beyond.
In the Republic of the Congo, TotalEnergies committed $500 million in 2025 to develop new wells at the Moho Nord field, aiming to add 40,000 barrels per day to an asset that already accounts for about half of the country’s production. In East Africa, Uganda’s Tilenga project is advancing toward first oil, supported by the 1,443-km East African Crude Oil Pipeline connecting to Tanga.
In Mozambique, the company is progressing plans to restart its $20 billion LNG project, which has a planned capacity of 13 million tonnes per year. This development is expected to unlock one of Africa’s largest gas reserves and play a significant role in boosting production growth as operations resume.
Meanwhile, frontier exploration is gaining momentum. In Namibia, TotalEnergies is targeting a final investment decision on the Venus discovery by the fourth quarter of 2026, positioning it as a major deepwater project globally. In South Africa, the company is preparing to drill offshore Block 3B/4B in the Orange Basin, pending regulatory approvals.
Beyond oil, gas monetisation remains a strategic priority. TotalEnergies continues to advance LNG and domestic gas projects while maintaining zero routine flaring across operations in Nigeria, Gabon, and Angola. The company is also expanding its renewable energy footprint, with solar projects across Southern and North Africa and hydropower developments in Uganda.
Sangster’s participation at the IAE Forum comes as TotalEnergies manages one of its most active investment cycles in Africa, spanning near-term production growth, large-scale LNG developments, and high-impact exploration projects that are set to define its future on the continent.
