How to activate 4G network on your smartphone
The 4G LTE network powers your smartphone a much faster internet speed and connectivity. It also boasts the general network connection for your calls and other forms of communication. By default a 4G LTE enabled gadget and SIM card should automatically connect although this might not happen in some cases.
When you are not automatically connected to the 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution) network, you will need to activate the 4G network manually through the phone settings.
But first before you can enjoy the fast connectivity speed that comes with 4G, you need to make sure you have a 4G LTE enabled phone and a 4G enabled SIM Card.
How to check if your Phone is 4G enabled
There are several ways one can use to check and confirm if their gadgets are 4G enabled or not. The first and the easiest way is to check at the internet symbol on the top right corner of your home screen. Can you see a 4G symbol, if yes then your devise if 4G enabled and in fact you are already connected to 4G LTE network.

By chance you do not see the 4G symbol, go ahead and check on your phone settings. Different makes and brands of smartphones may have different network settings approach, however there is a common setting procedure that is associated with most smartphones.
For android, simply go to settings>Mobile data>Network Mode> Change to 4G LTE
For iPhone, go to settings >Mobile /Cellular>Voice & Data

How to check if your Safaricom SIM card Is 4G LTE enabled
4G/LTE relies on new technologies that are not available on normal SIM cards.
Depending on your network provider, there are various ways to check and know if your SIM card is 4G enabled.
- Dial *100#
- Select option 7: Buy
- Select option 3: Normal Data Bundle WITH EXPIRY
- Enter 7 to go to the next page on the menu
- Select option 14: Is My Sim 4G Enabled
- ‘Dear customer. Your SIM card is 4G enabled. Enjoy fast internet browsing and streaming.’
OR
- Dial *544# on your feature phone, smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop computer (if using your SIM in a modem or router)
- Select option 3: Normal Data Bundle WITH EXPIRY
- Enter 7 or 98 to view more items on the menu
- Select option 14: Is My Sim 4G Enabled?
‘Dear customer, your SIM card is not 4G enabled. Visit the nearest Safaricom Retail store to replace your Sim card today. Join the 4G movement.’
For Airtel and Telkom the process is more or less the same.

If your SIM card is not 4G enabled, you will need to renew your SIM card with a 4G enabled one. Once you have a 4G enabled SIM card and smartphone you can go ahead and activate the 4G LTE settings on to be able to use 4G network.
How to switch 4G LTE network on
You can activate or deactivate 4G using your phone or tablet’s menu settings. Examples; For iPhone: Settings>Mobile/Cellular>Voice & Data
For Android: Settings>Mobile data>Network mode>Change to LTE/4G
