Kenya Medical Practitioners: License Application and Renewal Process

In accordance to the 2019 Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists act that took effect on 17thMay 2019. All health workers among them General Doctors and specialists are supposed to apply for practice  licenses using the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council online system. The same online system is used during the annual renewal of the practicing license. Here is a step by step procedure on how one can apply for annual practice license.

Practicing license for clinical officers and other medical officers is renewed regularly mostly after one or two years. You will be required to pass an online exam and score the minimum score to get the license.

Requirements for License Application

• A certified copy of original Degree or Diploma academic certificates, attested by one of the following;
  • The board’s Chief Executive Officer
  • A registered medical or dental practitioner
  • An advocate of the High Court of Kenya; and
  • A magistrate
• Relevant testimonials
• KCSE certificates
• Original indexing card
• A copy of the national Identity Card/Passport
• Prescribed fees

Online Registration Process

1. Log into the MPDC application online portal osp.medicalboard.co.ke
2. Select Register
3. Provide your email and personal credentials to create an account.
4. Update your profile by providing the necessary information among them;
   • Index Number
   • Registration Date
   • Email
   • ID Number
   • Citizenship
   • Date of birth
   • Address
   • Phone Number
5. Upload your photo

At this point, you will have successfully created your profile. This will now allow you to go ahead and apply for the annual Practice License.

Online Application For Annual Practice License

• Log into your account
• Select Annual Practice License
• Enter your retention Details. This allows you to select the form of employment you are in
• Select your retention county
• Select your type of practice
• Choose the type of license
• Enter Employers details
• Select your county
• Select your work station/facility
• Verify the above information
• Click on ‘Pay Now’
• A fee of Ksh.10,000 will be payable through the online system
• Download the invoice payment receipt

That’s it. By following these simple steps you will have successfully applied for your practice license. The license is usually valid for one year upon which one will have to renew it.

You should keep checking the online system for the status of your License. Once ready, the certificate will be ready for download and printing
