Joyce Gituro’s Marriage Uncovered: What Really Happened

Joyce Gituro, a celebrated Kenyan media figure—widely recognized for her work as a radio presenter on Radio Citizen, Milele FM, and Radio Jambo—and actor on the TV show Tausi, was married until approximately 2008. The union, which produced three children, ended under the strain of deepening marital issues and marked personal transformations

Gituro has candidly reflected on how her own withdrawal and pride played a pivotal role in the marriage’s collapse. During an interview on Radio Jambo in January 2025, she revealed, “I kept quiet instead of engaging … I was full of pride and refused to discuss anything.”

This communication breakdown left her ex-husband feeling isolated, and eventually, as Gituro describes, emotionally estranged. The situation grew more pronounced when he became deeply involved in a new church, embracing doctrines Joyce did not align with. His spiritual reorientation reportedly included what she described as “dark” practices. At one point, he withdrew entirely—disappearing from family life for about a year, taking personal belongings, and even forcing Joyce to tell their children he had died.

Despite these rocky circumstances, Joyce and her ex-husband have managed to maintain a cooperative co‑parenting relationship, focused on their children’s well-being. Reflecting on that period, she admits excuses like insecurity and lack of foundational friendship were early red flags she chose to overlook.

After the separation, Joyce redirected her energy toward raising her kids and growing her media career. Transitioning from radio to public service, she took on the role of Chief Officer for Public Communications and E-Government in Machakos County in July 2024.

In her January 2025 Radio Jambo interview, she also shared her openness to finding love again, outlining the profile of her ideal partner: a financially stable and God-fearing man aged between 48 and 58, someone who inspires her and supports her journey. Her son Jakes added that any future suitor must not only be impressive but also patient and ready to bond with the children.
