Ikuu Boys’ High School was started in 1964 as a provincial day secondary, in the grounds presently occupied by Ikuu Girls High School. It was started under the sponsorship of the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA). The school moved to its current location in 1965 to get closer to the Meru – Nairobi highway. Local people donated land and provided resources to construct the school.

In 2012 the school became a fully four stream. In the same year was upgraded to a national school following a steady and consistent improvement in performance. The first national class was admitted in 2013. The school has a projection of having five streams by 2017.

The school is funded by the ministry of education and teaching the Competency Based Curriculum(CBC). This is a cluster four  public national school under the Ministry of Education in Kenya and is known for posting great KCSE results over years.
