Family flees home after bed starts moving on its own at night

Residents of Kangaru in Embu County are still in shock after a bizarre midnight incident forced an entire family to abandon their home, claiming their bed began moving on its own while they slept.

According to neighbours, the strange occurrence took place on Saturday, August 9, 2025, when the Mugo family, a couple and their two children, were jolted awake at around 2:37 a.m. by what they initially thought was an earthquake.

Mr. Mugo told reporters the bed shook violently, slid towards the wall, and then turned almost halfway without anyone touching it. “At first, I thought my wife was dreaming and kicking, but when we both realised we were in the air, that’s when we screamed,” he said, adding that the children began crying uncontrollably.
